Mummy dear...

For quite some time now I had been thinking of creating this blog-a place where I can write about the memories with the people closest to me and I'm pretty happy to start it with my dear mother. :) So here goes...

On 17th Jan I was placed in Infosys and then in Tata Steel on 18th. These 2 days were probably the highest point in my life. Let me describe the journey of my placement and then perhaps I'll (partly) be able to describe my mother's hand in it.

15 November 2009

This was the day when the Tata Steel written exam was conducted for the Management Trainee(Systems) post-both on campus and off campus. I had answered the off campus exam in Jamshedpur and from what I had heard-More than 7000 people had answered the off campus exam all over India. I was pretty cool around that time-something very much reqd in such exams. The mind needs to be very composed so that u can deliver whatever is in it. :P

17th to 25th Novermber 2009

After answering the exam I immediately had to leave for college-had the stupid end-sem exams 4m 17th. Just gave them for the sake of giving it. This continued till 25th, after which we were free...

1st December 2009

The day of my CAT exam. This year CAT had gone online for the first time and was conducted in 2 slots, morning and evening from 28th November to 7th December. (A retest was also conducted for some students on 30th n 31st Jan 2010 due to technical faults in the Nov-Dec dates.)

2nd December 2009

After answering CAT I was quite relaxed. I had nothing to do. Around 4pm in the afternoon didi called me up n told me to check the Tata Steel result. Oh God!!! My hands were shaking so hard while I was on the computer that time. Was so tensed then! I opened my mail, searched for my roll no, entered it into the Tata Steel website and ............. :) :-)
The achievement I felt that time was greater than that of clearing the interview itself.

4th to 18th December 2009

Well, I don't recall what exactly I was doing on 3rd but I kinda define the official time of my interview preparation as 4th to 18th Dec. This period was, well, when I could have defined myself as 'hardworking.' LOL! I prepared 8 subjects for the technical part-C, C++, Data Structures, Operating System, DBMS, Computer Networking(and Network Security also), Analysis and Design of Algorithms and Software Engineering. And man I prepared like hell-even some topics beyond our syllabus at KIIT. I had to achieve it at any cost. Besides that, I also prepared quite a few questions for interview as well. Read quite a lotta articles about how to dress, interview tips, and polishing of several soft skills. During this time, I was in regular contact with papa with regard to very minute technicalities about my technical preparation and planning. I left Bhubaneswar on 17th on arrived at Jamshedpur on 18th morning. Went for shopping in the evening-my apparel touched about Rs.7000 (blazer included). hehe. And 1 final touch of preparation in the night.

19th December 2009

The day of the interview. Woke up early in the morning, got ready-in every aspect from shaving to gelling of hair and every other thing. I waited for a long time in the room awaiting my interview. The interview, however, was a very short 1, only 7 to 10 mins-something about which I feel very happy now that it was impressive enough to convince them in that short duration.

10th January 2010

I stayed at home for sometime after the interview and had then returned to college. 10th Jan was when TCS had visited our campus. I was one of the few who had dared to leave TCS as I had enough confidence in my written and interview skills that I would be able to crack any other company visiting our campus. However, my grade point is quite pathetic, just 6.7. But still I dared to do what I did, knowing that most of the toppers did not themselves dare to do so.

17th January 2010

This was when Infosys visited our campus. The rule in our campus is that once placed, we cannot sit in any more companies unless there is a substantial package difference. For a while I was not even interested to sit in Infosys for this reason, dreaming to touch the skies, u know. ;) But Tata Steel's result was not yet out till then and I thought that it's better if I sit because at that time no such good companies were to visit our campus in the recent future and among those that were sure to visit, Infosys was the best choice. So I sat... and not quite surprisingly, I got placed. :P

18th January 2010

Finally the day came when the Tata Steel results got announced. Oh God!!! What a day that was. 2 placements in 2 days. I nearly spent the entire 2 days on phone answering calls n msgs. WOW!!!

Till here it may seem that mummy did not have any materialistic hand in these 2 placements besides moral support. Even that was a bit less as during the preparation period I barely had time to sleep, leave aside the daily 5-10 min moral boosting sessions which normally go on between me n mummy. But the fact is that I didn't quite need to talk to mummy as she had done her job loooong back! My mother is the person responsible for my grooming-table manners, formal way of approaching people, my spoken english, dressing etiquette(although I don't maintain the high standard taught by her at all times, hehe) and just so many other things. Every minute detail had been paid attention to right from my childhood. I LUV U, Mummy!!! Thank you for all these small gifts that u have been showering on me all my life. U know, b4 sitting for Infosys, I so strongly had the feeling of how perfect I am! I was thinking about u that entire day, every bit of my childhood that I could while awaiting the Infosys interview, not tensed at all. I really had the feeling of being perfect, somehow somewhere I knew that the Infosys interview will be cracked, even if 1 guy is selected. Thank you for letting me feel that way. Even 4 a short duration, it was so marvellous I just cannot explain. I luv u sooo much!!!

Here's me wishing you HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I know its late, though. But still I had to wish u in this manner only! Take care n Happy Birthday! :)

Your genius son (:P)
